To the Mother of Arches
The Byzantine-era synagogue of Umm el-Kanatir ('Mother of Arches' in Arabic) has finally been reconstructed. I've been waiting years for this incredible project to be completed - the first time an ancient synagogue has been restored using the original stones. It's an amazing story, and a beautiful site: a must-see for any visit to the Golan. In the picture above you can see the restored Ark.

Got Carrots?
The other week I took my group to Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu for a fascinating bio-tour. Sde Eliyahu pioneered the use of organic agriculture and other innovative techniques in Israel, including BIOBEE, the first biological pest control facility in Israel. As part of the tour, we got to eat one of the most delicious carrots I've ever eaten!
